On September 13, 2024, Innovative University of Enga's Irelya Campus hosted its highly anticipated STEM Fair under the theme “Innovating for Daily Sustenance and a Sustainable Future through STEM.”
The event brought together university students, visiting students from Kopen School of excellence and Sir Tei Abal Secondary, and their representative teachers to explore innovative solutions to real-world challenges like sustainability, health, and environmental conservation.
The day began with a warm welcome by Event Coordinator Mr. Todon Wimijah, followed by insightful speeches from the Head of the Graduate Diploma Strand, Mr. Joseph Kerpei, and keynote speaker Dr. Lawrence Gerry of English Strand of IUE. These opening remarks set the tone for a day focused on creativity, innovation, and collaboration in the STEM fields.
Throughout the day, students presented a diverse array of projects, impressing judges and attendees with their passion and practical solutions to global issues. Special guests from secondary schools engaged in tailored STEM sessions, giving them hands-on experiences in biology, chemistry and physics.
The event culminated with guest speeches by Mr Martin (Kopen School of Excellence) highlighting importance of project base learning, Mrs Piakan (Deputy Principal Sir Tei Abal Secondary) stress on the importance of STEM a way forward for reducing poverty and good ways of making money), Mrs Samson and Dr Gerry also highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation, followed by an award ceremony recognizing outstanding projects.
The closing remarks by Mr. Todon Wimijah emphasized the importance of continuing to foster innovation and support the next generation of problem-solvers.
Overall, the 2024 STEM Fair was a resounding success, leaving participants inspired and committed to pursuing a sustainable future through STEM.
